Frequently Asked Questions

On this page, you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our solutions and the Rental Tracker platform.

Products & services

Rental Tracker will deliver the products you have ordered within 1–2 working days. Should we be unable to meet this deadline, we will, of course, let you know in good time. You can order products quickly and easily via our online shop or via the Rental Tracker App (Order → Order Form).

Rental Tracker offers a two-year warranty on all products as standard. However, after these two years, we are flexible and a product can be exchanged. Our products are of a very high standard and bear the CE mark. Under normal use, our products can last a lifetime.

Rental Tracker can be contacted by telephone on working days from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. If you have any questions, you can also contact us by email or via WhatsApp (WhatsApp messages are read and dealt with by the whole team).

Rental Tracker has developed a unique system in accordance with the tax authorities’ requirements. You can find the instructions under Help → Tax Authority Reporting Instructions. This will enable you to correctly record your journeys over a given period and specify the business and private use of your vehicle(s).

With Rental Tracker, apart from the cost of the tracker and any installation charges, you only pay the monthly subscription fee. This subscription fee covers your use of the online GPS portal and the trackers’ connectivity. The cost depends on the number of items. Request a quote with no obligation.

Rental Tracker does not tie customers into (long-term) contracts but offers customer-friendly subscriptions that can be cancelled at any time. Easy come, easy go!

You can ask us to deactivate your trackers at any time, for example because the car has been sold or is no longer being used for hire or leasing. In this case, please send us an email with your enquiry, stating the registration number of the vehicle in question.

At the start of each month, you will receive an invoice showing the trackers linked to your account that have had SIM activity over the past month. These are the trackers for which we incur connectivity costs.

You can check this figure by looking in your management account (the account we also specify on the invoice) to see how many trackers have been online over the past month.

Connectivity & data

Rental Tracker is connected to the best and largest network providers, who supply our connectivity. This means we have a very high-quality roaming SIM card that ensures our customers are seamlessly connected to a network worldwide ({+190 countries}). This means we can offer you the best coverage, even in more remote areas!

As long as the tracker’s SIM card has a signal, Rental Tracker – just like tracking services – can still determine the location of your equipment. This is, of course, less accurate than GPS and heavily dependent on the network operator.

Your data will be retained for 2 years. During this period, you can access all your data via the portal.

Portal & App

Rental Tracker aims to ensure that you can view all your data in your portal anytime, anywhere. You can access all the information you need via your mobile (smartphone), tablet or computer.

Rental Tracker has developed a highly user-friendly portal that can be customised by sector and according to your needs. After all, a car hire company requires different insights from the portal than a construction firm. This means you’ll only see the information that’s relevant to you.

If you have a manager account, you can create as many sub-accounts as you like and manage access to your trackers. You can find the instructions under Help → Tutorial videos → Create a sub-account.

It is very easy to generate detailed reports on usage relating to specific situations or events. You can find the instructions under Help → Tutorial videos → Generate reports.

You will receive 24/7 alerts regarding usage or specific events/situations; in the portal (reports), by email and by text message. You can customise how you wish to receive notifications. You can find the instructions under Help → Tutorial videos → Setting up geofences & notifications.

You can set a service interval so that you receive a notification when your vehicle needs servicing. You can find the instructions under Help → Instructional videos → Set service interval.

The Rental Tracker app is easy to download, completely free of charge from the App Store and Google Play, and is also very straightforward to use. It includes all the features you need to make the most of your equipment.

GPS trackers

Green means that the vehicle is moving. Yellow means that the vehicle is stationary or has connected within the last five minutes. Red means that the vehicle has been stationary for more than five minutes or is in sleep mode.

The trackers are added to the Vries website during testing. If the tracker has not yet been fitted or has not yet been connected to GPS, it will appear on the map on the Vries website.

There may be various reasons, such as:
  • The signal may be blocked if the vehicle is parked indoors, for example in a garage or multi-storey car park. This can block the signal.
  • Metal parts may interfere with the tracker’s signal.
  • The tracker has no power. Check whether the fixed 12V/24V power supply is being used.
  • If the tracker shows a red light, it may be that the tracker is actually working, but has been stationary for more than 5 minutes or is in sleep mode. Check whether the last location is correct.
You can change the tracker name in the tracker settings. See instruction video I1.

Connected Cars

In most cases, Rental Tracker can display data from connected cars (vehicles fitted with a SIM card as standard) on our portal! Please ask us about the options; we’d be happy to keep you updated on this exciting development.
